Radicular Pain

Pain radiating down your arm or legs? This symptom is termed ‘Radicular Pain’ and is commonly caused by irritation of a nerve.

There are a number of causes of nerve irritation, which include;

Direct compression of a nerve, for example narrowing of the spaces that the spinal nerves pass through. This type of compression most commonly occurs due to herniated discs (disc bulge) or bone spurs.

Indirect compression, which occurs when the build-up of inflammation causes nerve irritation. Inflammation typically occurs in response a ligament, muscle, or joint injury.

Regardless of the cause, nerve compression can disrupt the function of the nerve. This typically gives rise to pain that travels down an arm or leg. But can also progress to cause tingling, pins and needles, numbness, or weakness in the same area.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, we advise taking the time to have them investigated
